And we have a winner!

As part of my 30 Things by Thirty list I have been searching for the "Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe".  I wanted a good staple recipe for great chocolate chip cookies, a go-to type of recipe.  I quickly learned that it was more complicated than I expected.

See the perfect chocolate chip cookie doesn't really exist, everyone has to find their own version of it.  Some people like chewy cookies, some like cake like, some like crispy, some like nuts, some don't and the list goes on and on.  So after trying a few recipes and getting input from my taste testers, I realized what I was really looking for was a good all around cookie, the one that got a thumbs up from most, if not all of my tasters.  I mean you can't please all of the people all of the time!

I did lots of research when choosing the recipes that would be part of the "contest", I mean I didn't want to waste my time on a recipe that didn't stand a chance!  So, I searched, I read and I asked around.  Somewhere along the way someone at Betty Crocker found out about my search and they sent over one of their recipes for consideration. I was intrigued, I couldn't wait to see how they were all going to turn out.

Along the way our kitchen has been covered in lots of sugar and flour, we've eaten more than our share of cookies and plates of cookies have been delivered to everyone around us but I learned a lot about making chocolate chip cookies.  Basically every recipe has the same ingredients, it's just the quantities that differ.  It's really finding the perfect amount of flour, sugar, salt and chocolate that make the perfect chocolate chip cookie!

Well, 5 recipes later and we have a winner, one that all the taste testers agreed on.
The cookie is (in my opinion) the perfect combination of chewy and cake like, and it has just the right combination of sweet with a hint of salt.  And it will be no surprise to them but it was Betty Crocker's recipe for the "Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie" that won!  It really is a great cookie and one that we will make in this house for a long time to come!

Here's the recipe! (or you can click here and get it straight from Betty!)
