Looks can be deceiving.

You may have noticed that recently that Alan and I have been making weekly trips to the local farmers market.  We love the market in Dekalb, they have everything you can imagine and it reminds us of markets we have been to in other countries.  We also love how we go home with most of our purchases being fresh fruits and vegetables.  However, during every visit it's inevitable that one of us will pick up a piece of produce and look at the other and say "how do I know if it's ripe or not?".  Well wonder no more!  Environmental journalist Lori Bongiorno lays out the guidelines here on how to pick the ripest fruit. While she doesn't lay out the same for vegetables, we figure fruits are a good start!  So visit your local farmers market this weekend and give it a try!
