June

6th – 8th Virginia Highland Summer Fest
Neighborhood festival celebrates its 25th year, complete with parade, artists' market and more. Free. Parade Sat., 9:30 a.m. Fri., 2-8 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Virginia Avenue.

12th – Screen on the Green shows “Chicago”

June 14th - Creative Loafing’s Beerfest: Beer’lympics
Creative Loafing hosts its third annual beer festival in Woodruff Park. Expect several local bands and even more domestic and imported labels. $10-$30. 2-7 p.m. Woodruff Park, 51 Peachtree St.

19th – Screen on the Green shows “Terrestrial”

20th – Decatur Beach Party
Decatur ships in 60 tons of sand and turns the square into a beach for this annual event. Features live music, boardwalk games and beach movies. $5-$10. 5 p.m.-midnight. Downtown Decatur Square, 119 E. Court Square, Decatur.

21st – Stone Mountain Village Walking and Wine Tour
Sample wines and munchies in the small-town atmosphere of Stone Mountain Village. An hour-long tour guides guests through village restaurants, shops and galleries while sampling wines from Sycamore Grill, Continental Coffee and Mama Mia's Italian Restaurant. Free. 6-8 p.m. 770-879-4971.

26th – Screen on the Green shows “Footloose”

28th – Atlanta Summer Beer Fest

July

4th - Anywhere you are in Atlanta, you'll find birthday parties for the good old U.S.A.
Centennial Olympic Park ... located between Baker Street and Techwood Drive is the site of Atlanta's daylong Independence Day celebration. Live Music & Entertainment start in the afternoon and end with a 'really big' Fireworks Display choreographed to a Musical Score. Thousands of people turn out, but you can also view the fireworks from a variety of `less crowded' spots nearby. Festivities begin at 4:30 PM, with the fireworks show at 9:30 PM. Hosting the largest Fireworks Show in the Southeast, Lenox Square will light up the beautiful Buckhead District with a huge Pyrotechnic Extravaganza at 9:40 PM. Turner Field will also host a fireworks show immediately following the Braves game.

10th – Cocktails in the Garden
Spend an evening in the garden sipping a light cocktail while learning about featured flowers or plants. Free-$12. Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. Continues through Sept. 1. Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1345 Piedmont Ave. 404-876-5859.

August

23rd – German Bierfest
Celebrate German beer by learning about it, talking with others who love it and, of course, drinking it. Live music from the Francisco Vidal Band. 2-8 p.m. Atlantic Station, 371 17th St. 404-733-1221.


30th – 31st – Grant Park Summer Shade Festival
The sixth annual event featuring an artists' market, wine and food booths, top-billed local bands, and family activities. Grant Park, 840 Cherokee Ave.
