A Whole Half Ironman

Last weekend Alan and I traveled to Macon, GA to meet up with his Mom & Dad and Susan & Travis, for his first Half IronMan race.

It's been hot for the past 2 weeks in GA, I mean sizzling hot, and the high for race day was 99.  So, if the distance he was racing wasn't enough the heat alone could do some damage.

Race morning was an early one, as usual.  And it was warm even before the sun came up.  We all prepared, Alan for his race and everyone else for a full day of cheering!

Alan did amazing coming in right under 6 hours and placing 15 out of 33 in his age group.  Not only did he perform well but felt amazing after the race and even the next day, which means his training prior to the race and his precautions during the race were spot on!

It was amazing to see him swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 in weather that topped out at 97 during his run, and see him smiling and strong the whole time.

Best part of the whole day is that he had a great time and love the experience.  Of course, the next day he was ready to start planning his next race.
