An early Sunday morning leads to a big commitment

After staying up late last night watching the bball games and doing random things around the house we were looking forward to a cloudy morning perfect for sleeping in.
However, this morning we quickly realized that other people had a different plan for our morning.
We woke up to yelling, screaming, noise makers, horns, clapping and just plan chaos, around 8:30 am. After realizing it was early on a Sunday and this was unusual noise, even for midtown, I got up to see what was going on. Turns out 5th St. (which our windows are on) was part of the course for the ING Marathon. We made coffee and tea and enjoyed watching the marathoners and half marathoners make their way down the street.
Here is a view from our window, after most of the 15,000 participants had passed through.

Watching the event and then reading more about the requirements etc. re sparked our interest in running an event. So here we go, starting tomorrow we are going to start training for the Peachtree Rd. Race. It's a 10K race down Peachtree St. that has been held every year for almost 40 years. After we get through that, we will see about attempting the half marathon with ING next year. So anyone interested in spending the 4th of July in Atlanta and being part of our sidewalk cheer crowd, we'd love to have you!
